Given that our economy is based on the exchange of goods and services for currency, it is technically accurate to state that money is in the transaction.

But ultimately I think that’s a superficial perspective. Price and volume matters, but sustainable value lies far deeper than the frenzy of transactional tail chasing.

Value is in the interaction.

Perhaps the interactive value stems from a piece of technology being designed so elegantly that it sets a standard for being intuitive and easy, which creates a sense of satisfaction and empowerment in the user.

Or perhaps the value exists in a context completely outside of technology where patience, questioning, listening and intentional guidance serve as the bedrock for an impactful and trusting business relationship.

In this day and age, most of us need to exist and perform in both of these realms.

So yes, we need to transact and that means hustling and closing deals, but don’t confuse your money flow with your value.

Value is in the interaction. Anchor your client relationships to this principle and you will find sustainability and fulfillment that is exponentially more rewarding than the inevitable highs and lows of transactional dollars.
